DO MORE WITH LESS
Efficiency improves when the amount of work grows faster than the amount of organization supporting it.
Hold headcount steady while increasing output, speed, complexity and responsiveness. Remove obvious slack first, then redefine the remaining capacity as the new normal. When employees report overload, prioritize the work more clearly without removing any of it.

Claim
Work intensification is commonly experienced as increased pace, effort and efficiency demands. Reviews associate sustained intensification with impaired employee well-being and motivation, although effects vary across different forms of intensified demand.
Evidence
A review of peer-reviewed work-intensification studies found that accelerated pace and efficiency demands were repeatedly associated with adverse well-being outcomes. A broader systematic review likewise identifies workload, long hours and time pressure as recurring forms of intensification with both work and non-work consequences.
