DIRECTIVE 002 / FEEDBACK

INCREASE THE CADENCE

When feedback quality is uncertain, increase frequency.

Add weekly check-ins, monthly reflections, pulse conversations and continuous-feedback prompts. Count completed interactions. Do not burden the system with equivalent requirements for specificity, source credibility, task relevance or usable next actions.

Primary: FEEDBACKGROWTH
RATIONALE
Cadence is observable, schedulable and easy to audit. Quality is considerably harder to place on a dashboard.
SUCCESS INDICATOR
Feedback interactions increase faster than employees' ability to explain what they should do differently.
COMMON FAILURE
Providing specific, credible, task-relevant information that helps the employee change performance.
STATUS
Canonical / approved

THE UNFORTUNATE PART

Unfortunately, the research…

Claim

Feedback effects depend on content, focus, credibility, standards knowledge and recipient processing; increasing frequency alone does not guarantee improved performance.

Evidence

Meta-analytic evidence finds that feedback improves performance on average but can also reduce it, particularly when attention shifts away from the task. Research on feedback frequency likewise indicates that frequency is more useful under conditions such as clear standards and favorable or usable information. The evidence does not support treating cadence as a proxy for quality.

The Directive is satire. The research summary is not. Evidence is stated separately and qualified to the underlying literature rather than treated as proof of the joke.
