Clear expectations can become obsolete before the employee has a chance to meet them.
Keep responsibilities broad enough to absorb whatever becomes urgent. Add expectations through meetings, side conversations and examples from other people's jobs. During evaluation, assess the employee against the role as it evolved rather than the role they were told they had.
