OPEN THE OFFICE
Privacy is a barrier between employees and the collaboration they have not requested.
Remove walls, doors and enclosed workspaces. Place teams within visual and acoustic range of one another and describe the resulting environment as collaborative. Provide reservable rooms in quantities calibrated to ensure they are usually unavailable when privacy becomes necessary.

Claim
Research comparing office configurations has found that open-plan environments involve a privacy–communication trade-off; noise and loss of privacy can outweigh perceived communication benefits in occupants' workspace satisfaction.
Evidence
Post-occupancy data across office types found privacy and acoustic dissatisfaction to be major disadvantages of open-plan layouts, with enhanced interaction not offsetting those disadvantages in overall workspace satisfaction.
